across，cross
這兩個詞都是表示橫越、渡過之意，在拼寫上僅差一字之微，故很易混淆。它們的區別在于詞性和使用場合有所不同。across是介詞;cross是動詞。

cross除作動詞外，亦可作名詞。作名詞時，有較強的構詞能力，它所構成的詞的某些詞義和用法是值得注意的。例如crossroad是交叉路或橫馬路，而crossroads卻是十字路或十字路口，它的前面可以用a，但-s不能丟掉。如：
The accident took place at a crossroads.
車禍發生在十字路口。
