這個故事講述了主人公無意中不小心漂泊到了倫敦，倫敦的兩位富翁兄弟打了一個賭。哥哥認為如果給他一張百萬元的英鎊，30天后他會因為無法證明這些錢是自己的而餓死，而弟弟卻認為他會活得很好。于是他們就把一張百萬英鎊給了亨利，自己兩人出國旅游了30天。回來后得知亨利因為那張百萬英鎊被所有人追捧，想拉攏他，幾乎所有東西都讓他免費買下。并因為這張英鎊不斷提高社會地位，最后到了除王室外的最高地位公爵之位，還娶到了一個漂亮的老婆，得到了三萬元的銀行利息。又從兄弟那兒得到了很好的工作，過上了幸福的生活。
我從中體會到了人們會為了錢，拼命拉攏莫個人，對這個人點頭哈腰，以及對他從各個方面都順從和安排得事事到位，就只是為了錢。對沒錢的人高傲無禮，對有錢的人低聲下氣，老老實實。
這使我感到很憤怒，凡事都應該人人平等，而這些人卻只看重錢，只要有錢人都會把他招待得很好，可遇到沒錢的就會高傲無禮。這人人平等的道理用到哪里去了?
在我們生活中，也經常有這樣的事，大家都喊著應該人人平等，但看到有錢人，卻缺一個個都低聲下氣，只想多拿些錢，多賺一點，我認為這是很不正氣的表現，希望大家都能一起，把城市中的不正之風改過來!
