　　My View on the Income Gap

　　Now the income gap is getting wider and wider. In some privately owned firms, joint-ventures, or foreign-fund companies, an executive's yearly income is ten times or even a hundred times as much as an ordinary worker's.

　　Faced with this situation, people will undoubtedly have different opinions. Some believe that it benefits the social and economic development since driving force is often derived from the gap. In other words, the gap inspires people and gives a push to advancement. Others speak of its side effect: income gap is often the root of social unrest and also contrary to our country's principle.

　　From my point of view, while it is true that the income gap may stimulate the social development to some extent, it causes trouble as well. An income gap that is too wide for most people to bear can neither contribute to the stability of a country nor promote its economic development. Therefore, while we are advocating the rapid development of our country, we should tolerate the narrow income gap but narrow the wide one.

　　Many people wonder what to do when they visit other countries. Some people think it is best for them to adopt the local customs. However, other people think it is best to follow the customs of their own countries. This is not an easy question to answer but in this essay we will look at this issue.

　　Some things that visitors may do are immoral or even illegal according to the customs of the local country. For example, in certain countries it is considered bad to show affection in public like men and women kissing or holding hands. It may also be very bad for women to wear revealing clothing such as a short skirt or see-through blouse. In these countries it may also be illegal to drink alcohol.

　　Adopting to the local customs can show respect. Wearing a suit and tie can show respect if that is what the people of the country wear at a meeting or formal event. Men will take their hat off or women will cover their heads to show respect when entering a ‘holy’ place.

　　However, people in many countries understand if their visitors don’t follow their local customs or practices. They know their customs may be strange or difficult for foreign visitors to follow. They know foreigners may unknowingly break some of their rules. These people are understanding and forgiving.

　　As we can see, there are many aspects to this question. I feel that visitors should follow the customs of the country if it shows respect to the local people or is required by law.

　　during the winter holiday, i was very happy because of the chinese new year and other reasons. during the holiday, my parents and i went back to my hometown in the countryside in hebei province. i had not come back for several years, so that i was so surprised to find that great changes had taken place in this small village in the past years. almost every family in the village had color tv set and some of them had computers. many families had their houses newly built or rebuilt. previously, the tile-roofed houses could be seen everywhere, but now they have taken on an entirely newlook. motorcycles or even private cars are not luxuries any more.

　　one of the villagers proudly told me that he and some other villagers were going to join a tour and travel abroad. previously, the villagers were busy in their farm work all the year round, but now they have much more time and money to relax or entertain. traveling has become a new trend among villagers. seeing these amazing changes, my father said that he would go back to my hometown as soon as he retired. as for me, i strongly supported his idea.

　　【my winter vacation】 during my winter vacation, i was very bored. nothing seemed interesting, except for doing homework, watching tv or playing computer games. however, it was interesting at the last few days. i bought my lovely guitar. whenever i felt bored, i could take it out and play it. my most favorite thing was this guitar. let me sum up the vacation. more than half of a month has passed. i went to qingyuan for spring festival and after coming back, i spent the few days left in my guitar world. how short this vacation was!
