沿湖而行，可見對面山巒中有"達(dá)摩峰"。相傳印度僧人達(dá)摩來中國傳教，到達(dá)少林寺，面壁10年仍常有雜念涌入心頭，于是走出寺廟，要找一處絕妙的靜處修行。后來就來到去臺山，在子房湖西畔山巒上靜坐。此處人跡罕至，達(dá)摩高居山巔，終山嵐流云為伴，山靈一片凈化像山樣入定下來，不久即化仙而去，此處則留下了"達(dá)摩峰"和與之遙遙相對的"佛龕峰"。
